The mayor of the Bucharest’s 5th sector, Catalin Chirita, has appealed to justice in order to retrieve apartments that have been illegally appropriated.

The leaders of the miners live a comfortable life in illegally occupied apartments

On the list made by the City Hall there are "famous" names among the union leaders, such as:  Viorel Temelescu, Marin Condescu, Romulus Nita, Ioan Bartas.

The City Hall of the 5th sector has taken legal action claiming corruption: one against the leaders of the miner’s trade union that illegally took possession of an apartment building in Panduri Street, and the other one against a former "securitate" officer, that illegally obtained five dwellings. Catalin Chirita, mayor of the Bucharest’s 5th sector, stated at the press conference yesterday that the suit against the miners started in 1997, and since then, for 15 hearings, they had not shown up in court, but asked for the trial to be moved to a different court. The Courthouse of the 5th sector denied their motion. " Last week, on January, 20, seven of the leaders showed up at the last hearing and told the judges that their miners would come to Bucharest and take possession of another apartment building", stated mayor Chirita. The 26 leaders of the miners obtained the apartments in building P27 in Panduri Street on June 20, 1990, as working residences. " Subsequently, they bought the apartments using the union money, but on their own names, which is illegal", added Chirita.

The second suit that is delayed is that of the retired colonel, Ion Condoiu, who obtained 5 dwellings in the 5th sector by "forgery and using forgery", between 1993-1995. "In order to obtain them, Ion Condoiu photocopied documents of a company he had set up in the 1st sector, each time changing the name of the company. He gave one house to his mother, one to his daughter, one to his mistress and one to a colleague of his daughter’s to keep an eye on his mistress. He got the fifth apartment for himself, although he also owns a house nationalized by the communists from its rightful owners. The house of 250 square meters is neighboring the Law School. The Mayor specified that Ion Condoiu worked for the Romanian Intelligence Service between 1990 and 1992, and afterwards he was department chief in the Military Unit 0215 dealing with violent actions in the Jiu Valley. "He is currently advisor of Senator Vasile Vacaru", added Catalin Chirita, mentioning that up to now the Prosecution Office has not ended the investigation of this case.
